Schools
  NJ State Dept of Education - The official website of the NJ State Department of Education. The resource point for all public school reports, statistics, demographics, test scores, etc. This is where you will find the latest data from the most comprehensive report on NJ public Schools, the "NJ School Report Card".
  Belleville Public Schools - On September 11, 1852 at a special Township meeting, an appropriation of $5,000 was voted for the erection of a school. Two acres of land on Stephen Street were purchased from Hugh Holmes for $799, and a year later the school was ready for occupancy and was called “The Academy”. The cross street flanking was called Academy Street. Robert S. Gow was the first principal.
  South Orange-Maplewood School District - The School District of South Orange and Maplewood,within the conceptual framework of the Tripod Model, developed by Dr. Ronald Ferguson of Harvard University, provides (1) a thorough curriculum aligned to state standards, (2) opportunities for teachers to expand teaching strategies and (3) cultivation of positive relationships in our schools and classrooms.

  Essex County - Essex County was officially established in 1682 by the East Jersey Legislature as one of the four original counties of present day New Jersey ( Bergen, Monmouth and Middlesex were the others.)
  Belleville Township - Belleville, a place carrying the French name for "beautiful town," stands on the west bank of the Passaic River in Essex County, New Jersey. Today it is difficult to see the river from the town because of modern changes...that have separated the two. Modern Belleville is no longer dependent upon the Passaic River as it once was, indicating that an ancient connection has been broken.
  Bloomfield Township - The area now known as "Bloomfield' was a part of Newark in 1666 when that town was settled. The land had been bought from the Yantecaw, a subtribe of the Lenni-Lenape Indians.
  Caldwell Borough - The Caldwells were settled in the early 18th century by pioneers who moved westward from Newark or through the Passaic Valley from the "Dutch" areas of Bergen County. While it was thought... .
  Cedar Grove Township - The Township of Cedar Grove is located in the NE part of Essex County, New Jersey with a population of 12,300. Cedar Grove is situated between the First & Second Chains of the Watchung Mountains and occupies some 4.5 sq mi. It is bordered by Little Falls (Passaic County) (N), Montclair (E), Verona (S) and North Caldwell (W). Cedar Grove is approximately 10 mi NW of Newark.
  East Orange City - THE "TOWN AT THE RIVER" included land extending from the Passaic River to the Orange Mountain. For one hundred and forty years, what is now East Orange continued to be a part of Newark, and until 1780 was designated as "Newark Mountain". Orange, including all the Oranges, was separated from Newark November 27, 1806.
  Essex Fells Borough - Borough of Essex Fells
  Fairfield Township - Fairfield is a township located in Essex County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 7,063.
  Glen Ridge Borough - When Bloomfield seceded in 1812, Glen Ridge was a section "on the hill" composed mostly of farms and woodlands with the exception of a thriving industrial area along the Toney's brook in the Glen. For most of the nineteenth century, three water-powered mills produced lumber, calico, pasteboard boxes and brass fittings. A copper a sandstone quarry and mine were nearby.
  Irvington Township - The Elizabeth River is the chief geographic feature of Irvington, bisecting the town from north to south. The river, which enters Irvington at a point 140 feet above sea level, descends gradually until it crosses into Hillside at an elevation of 70 feet.
  Livingston Township - In 1811, seven hamlets -- including Teedtown (now Livingston Center), Northfield, Morehousetown (Livingston Circle), Cheapside (Livingston Mall), Washington Place and Squiertown (Route 10 Circle) got together and petitioned for the formation of The Township of Livingston. It was named in honor of William Livingston, the first governor of New Jersey and a framer of the Constitution.
  Maplewood Township -
  Millburn Township - Millburn Township is a beautiful residential community located in the southwest corner of Essex County. New Jersey Magazine has ranked the Millburn Township school system among the top 3 school districts in the state. Millburn also is nationally ranked as having one of the most academically challenging high schools in the country.
  Montclair Township - Having acquired acreage at "the foot of First Mountain," Azariah Crane, his wife Mary Treat Crane, and their son Nathaniel, built a home in 1694 near the present intersection of Orange Road and Myrtle Avenue. Other pioneers arrived soon after, and the frontier settlement of Cranetown came into being in what is now the southern part of Montclair
  City of Newark - The year, 1995, marked Newark's 330th birthday. Only two other major American cities, Boston and New York, claim such a long history.
  Nutley Township - Nutley is a town that is rich in history. Originally our town was named Franklinville until it was changed to Franklin and then to the name of Nutley in 1902. The name may have been chosen because of all the nut trees that lined the streets and sidewalks. Many famous people came to enjoy weekends here. Authors, and artists built their homes and stayed or visited from nearby New York.
  Orange Township, City of - Orange was initially a part of the city of Newark, and remained such until November 27, 1806, when the territory now encompassing all of the Oranges was detached. On April 13, 1807, the first government was elected, but not until March 13, 1860, was Orange officially incorporated as a city.
  Roseland Borough - Roseland, still part of Livingston, was growing in population. At a meeting in 1907, a delegation from Roseland was outvoted when they requested a new school for their area. Bill Teed led a petition drive for the establishment of a new borough. The petition was presented to the State Legislature, and on April 10, 1908, the Borough of Roseland came into existence.
  South Orange Village Township - South Orange is a quaint residential community boasting authentic Tudor, Colonial, and Victorian homes, streets dotted with gaslights, beautiful parks, and a bustling Village center.
  Verona Township - In 1798, ..."Horseneck" separated from Newark and became the "Township of Caldwell" ...what is now ...Verona, Cedar Grove, Fairfield and the Caldwells. ...This area was known as Vernon Valley. However, ... the townspeople were informed that another Vernon Valley, in Sussex County, had first claim to the name. The name Verona was suggested as a substitute and was eventually accepted by all.
  West Caldwell Township - By 1904, the population of Caldwell Township had grown and become so spread out that public renovations could never be approved by residents on both sides of town. To alleviate the problem, on February 16, 1904, West Caldwell was incorporated as an individual borough comprised of 3,175 acres and 410 people.

  AMTRAK - Amtrak serves more than 500 stations in 46 states. Only Alaska, Hawaii, South Dakota, and Wyoming have no Amtrak service. Wyoming is served by Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches. Amtrak operates over more than 22,000 route miles. It owns 650 route miles, primarily between Boston and Washington, DC, and in Michigan. In other parts of the country, Amtrak trains use tracks owned by freight railroads.
